In a letter to S. S. McClure,1890 Dec 23, Ober writes that he has sent clippings from representative newspapers about his work, as well as a letter from J. G. Whittier. He wishes that they all be returned to the above address where he will be staying for the next ten days, and notes that McClure already has his biographical matter. He adds that he has studied the West Indies for the past ten years. In a letter to S. S. McClure, 1891 Jan 1, Ober writes to that it has been decided that he will go first to Cuba, then to Haiti, San Domingo, Puerto Rico and Jamaica after the Exposition is well along. He has not heard from McClure about writing a series of letters for him and leaves his addresses in Chicago and Boston where he can be reached until January 10th. In a letter to Mr. Pratt, 1892 Nov 15, Ober encloses an article titled, "The First American Christmas," or if Pratt prefers, the "Christmas Wrecking of Columbus" (the title Pratt has suggested). He also sends a dozen photographs and asks Pratt not to use the photograph of the anchor, as it was used in Harper's. He maintains his copyrights of these articles, as well as the rights of reproductions of photos.
